I have an extremely in-depth background on radio control models and mechanics, as well as battery technology, auto materials, setup's etc. I actually race Nitro-methane (gas)/electric brushless powered RC models at sanctioned events around the state. I have been into this hobby for 4 years, and I have been on the leading edge in terms of new technologies ever since. A lot of people do not know that I do this stuff, because it is not mainstream like most things that most people do. I have spend thousands, yes, thousands on my hobby and I have a very well understanding of mechanics and engineering. I have always been an engineer at heart throughout my life, and now that I am a junior I decided that I really have to make some futuristic decisions, first one being joining the robotics team. To give you more of an idea on this stuff I do, you can check out one of the videos from my racing:

http://www.undergroundrc.com/videos.aspx?uID=69

Again, just a very rough background of what experience I've had.

As far as sports go, I play hockey, tennis, golf, and snowboard.

The FRC competition has inspired me to pursue a career in engineering and management; this team was founded during my freshman year. In school I only have the chance to learn theories; there are no engineering or shop classes. This team has given me the opportunity to work with professional engineers to learn skills which can be applied to the real world. I like to hang out with friends, read, juggle, play chess, and snowboard.

Daniel W. (daniel.w [at] swrobotics [dot] com)

Team Role: Website Administrator/Designer, Media (Photography)

Joined during 2007-2008 season

Bio: Daniel W.

I am many things: a technical editor, a musician (violin and vocal), an actor, a Wikipedia contributor, and a hobbyist programmer. I was introduced to the robotics team by a friend, and quickly got involved designing this site, which is based on the design for another site I'm still developing.

I am a frequent contributor to my own personal blog (Technobabbles, linked in this site's footer), where I rant about all sorts of things ranging from the obvious (school) to the geeky (Wikipedia, Google, Microsoft, etc.) and even the mundane ("Google slowed down Gmail's storage counter today."). Contributions have slowed of late as I've gotten busier with homework, robotics, and various other extracurriculars, and my traffic has decreased as a result; but I have more important things to do, unfortunately, than write about random goings-on in the world of technology.

Right now, my main project (aside from school) is to turn the mess of code that generates this website into a beautiful work of art. Fortunately, I have some help from August H., another programmer, listed above.

I'm a ninth grader this year at SW. Erm. . . I play viola, love math (join the math team!) and love a good game of frisbee. I also enjoy working with HTML/CSS (though I'm not extremely good), and am extremely good at procrastinating homework, and making idiotic arithmetic errors (Of course 10 - 4= 8. Why on earth would you think otherwise?). Yup, that's me. ^_^
